Project Overview

Aquila was awarded the contract for the manufacture, procurement, assembly and testing of six import trolleys employed for safely transporting active material at Dounreay, from the storage facilities to the repackaging area.

As a key part of the decommissioning process at Dounreay, the trolleys would provide safe transport of sacrificial cans (containing active materials) within the Dounreay facility.

The scope also included design modifications for three of the trolleys to enable the handling and transport of specially extended sacrificial cans to provide a trolley fleet capable of handling all sacrificial can forms.

The six import shielded trolleys are identical in design and incorporate a commercially available proprietary motorised trolley, with modifications, which acts as the main platform for the combination of steel support frames and Jabroc shielding.

Summary

Aquila worked hand-in-hand with DSRL to manufacture and assemble the six trolleys, making design modifications where required. The work testing was carried out at Aquila’s Twyford workshop, prior to delivery to DSRL.
